Via Artistica – Sculpture Park, the Road of Artists

As the result of the engagement and generosity of numerous artists, participants of an art colony, this unique permanent open-air display — Via Artistica — was opened in 2019. It is a kind of metaphor derived from the Via Adriatica, the well-known hiking (trail) route that runs along the entire Adriatic coast.

And just as on the Via Adriatica we pass through beautiful landscapes alongside the most beautiful sea in the world, so on the Via Artistica we pass through a display of sculptures set up on the old Lokva–Mimice road, from where there are beautiful views of the sea, the coast and the islands.

The three-dimensional form of the sculptures interpolates with the vista of the landscape in an interesting and ever-changing way. As the president of the art colony, Mrs. Mladenka Mimica, wrote:

All the clouds today seem to me like waves,
today I will set out for the open sea
to ask the fishermen:
“Tell me, where is the sea?”

the sculptures are always drawn into a certain dynamic of the landscape, subject to the whim of the weather, fair or foul. In this particular constellation of the scene’s elements, the visitor can always read a different story and thereby find some new inspiration. With their form and their whiteness, the sculptures actively take part in the play of the clouds scattered around them.

With the outlines of the Omiška Dinara and Biokovo fading into the blue of the sea on one side, and the sea merging with the sky on the other, this display is made interesting and inspiring for all ages.
