There are beaches, and then there are beaches. Of the latter, we have a list of about twenty in Croatia, each of which could be the most beautiful in the world!

Pasjača

Pasjača is located south of the village of Popovići in Konavle. It takes less than half an hour to drive there from Dubrovnik. Even if you don’t plan on swimming, it’s definitely worth a visit because the landscape is truly spectacular! It has been on our wish list for the past ten years, but as the list is quite long, the opportunity to visit finally arose during our “tour” of southern Croatia.

The road leading to the beach is quite good. After the last houses, continue driving for about 400 m where you can park your car in the widening next to the soccer field. If you don’t find a spot there, about 100 meters further, there is an even larger parking lot and an information board about the beach. It also includes a warning that you proceed to the beach at your own risk due to the possibility of rockfalls. This danger is very real, as the cliff that rises up to 100 meters above the beach is very porous. On the beach, there are shelters made of solid rock where one feels quite safe, so we didn’t pay too much attention to the potential danger.

Contrasts…

View from above – the beginning of the descent to the beach from a height of 100 m.

The descent to the beach itself is steep but pleasant, as most of the path cut into the cliff is concrete with a metal railing on the side. The views that open up with every step are spectacular! In one part, you pass through a short tunnel carved into the living rock, exiting onto the final part of the path where locals keep their boats (in Dalmatia, the common name for small boats). The sea, aided by the south wind, can surely get quite wild here when the locals decided to seek shelter for their vessels so high up. This is not surprising, as the beach faces the open sea.

Pasjača is partly sandy, which surprised us, but most of it is covered with pebbles. The pebbles are not the most pleasant to walk on, so those accustomed to fine pebbles will certainly mind that. The sea is excellent but slightly colder due to the presence of vrulje (submarine freshwater springs), especially in the eastern part between the main beach and the small hidden beach that can only be reached by swimming.

Overall, if your journey takes you to the south of Croatia, Pasjača will surely amaze you with its wild beauty. It is a unique place, spectacular in every way!
