Meštrović Mausoleum in Otavice

On the hill of Paraćeva glavica, in the northwestern part of Petrovo polje, stands the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, the mausoleum and final resting place of the great Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović. Meštrović chose this hill because it forms the dominant elevation of the area, and it lies just about ten minutes’ walk from the Meštrović family house in Otavice.

The road leading from the mausoleum toward Otavice passes through a beautiful tree-lined avenue in the field and crosses the Čikola river. If your travels bring you to this part of the Šibenik hinterland, especially if you set off from Drniš along the road toward Sinj, the Meštrović Mausoleum in Otavice is certainly something you should not miss. This time we were there outside opening hours, so unfortunately we were unable to document the interior, but we had already had the chance to view it many years ago.

Special
Although our focus is on Croatia, due to great interest in reviewing some international locations from our travels, we decided to launch the Special section. In it, we will not cover locations in the same detailed way we do with Croatian ones, but will instead provide a brief overview of multiple locations grouped into meaningful categories. The only criterion we still strictly follow is that they must be natural attractions.
