Gorski lazi – mountain meadows of Gorski kotar
Lazi are upland meadows used for hay-making and for feeding livestock. The ones we visited lie in the heart of Gorski kotar, a fair distance from the motorway and from any larger urban centre. The first town of any size, if it can be called that, is sleepy Čabar.

This region is graced by deep coniferous forests, meadows in forest clearings and some of the most beautiful springs in Croatia. Far from the urban bustle and the main roads, it is a real pleasure to lose yourself and wander through the hamlets and the little woods between them, whether on foot or by bike. We are not inclined to advertise or recommend accommodation on this site, so this article too has kept a certain degree of restraint, but I could not resist including these few photographs, which prove that Croatia is full of magical landscapes that are often undiscovered and still unspoilt.
I should mention at the end that, as we were leaving, our hostess made us the finest baked pancakes we have ever eaten, from home-made cheese and cream, just so we would have something for the road 🙂

Special
Although our focus is on Croatia, due to great interest in reviewing some international locations from our travels, we decided to launch the Special section. In it, we will not cover locations in the same detailed way we do with Croatian ones, but will instead provide a brief overview of multiple locations grouped into meaningful categories. The only criterion we still strictly follow is that they must be natural attractions.
