Vidova Gora – The Highest Peak of the Adriatic Islands

Location: Bol, BračDifficulty: Easy

Brač is one of our favourite islands. It has everything — from the most beautiful beaches, a rich cultural heritage, good taverns and restaurants, olive groves and vineyards, caves, stone villages scattered across the interior, stone villages with safe harbours scattered along the sea… Brač is also home to the highest island peak of the AdriaticVidova gora (778 m).

With the Christianisation of the Croats, the peak of Brač was dedicated to St. Vitus, the remains of whose church are still visible at this site today. However, the name of the peak is even older, originating from the Old Slavic four-headed god Svetovid (Svevid), who sees in all four directions at once.

Although from the peak you can see in all directions, the most beautiful view is nonetheless the one to the east and south. The most prominent features are the island of Hvar, the town of Bol and the famous Zlatni rat beach.

Although the climb to the top from the northern side is very gentle, I see no reason why you should not drive up to the top. The road is excellent and the car park at the top is spacious. I am, by the way, an advocate of pragmatism. There are so many interesting locations that can be reached in no other way than on foot, so I consider walking to places that can be reached by car a waste of time. But if it is someone’s pleasure, the experience is surely lovely, and the reward at the top is worth the effort!

When visiting Brač, a trip to Vidova gora should be near the top of the list of every true lover of natural attractions, and the view from the summit is not the only asset of this location!
