Srebrna (Silver beach), a beach with a bronze glow

Srebrna is one of the most famous beaches, not only on Vis but also beyond. We first discovered it more than twenty years ago. Back then, it was a “wild” beach, far from houses and civilization. However, “progress” has happened here as well, so today Srebrna has a beach bar, stairs carved out leading directly to it, changing cabins, toilets, sunbeds…

The only things missing are lifeguard towers to qualify for a Blue Flag—and we avoid Blue Flags at all costs!

It’s a shame that the idyll of such a place has been permanently ruined, but apparently, that’s how it must be when tourism is led by people without vision, where short-term personal gain is placed above the common good, aesthetics, sustainability, and environmental preservation.

Srebrna is otherwise special for its beautiful white pebbles, untypically large, so at first, it seems impossible to walk on them barefoot. However, it is precisely their size and flatness that make them easier to walk on than, for example, Dubovica on Hvar, which has much smaller pebbles that are still too large for a comfortable approach to the sea.

Srebrna used to be called Lubandjera. Today, that name is almost forgotten.

The pebbles do become slightly smaller at the entrance to the sea, where you have to struggle a bit, but if you go to the right edge of the beach (looking toward the sea), you will find much finer gravel that is far more pleasant for walking.

The uniqueness of Srebrna doesn’t stop with the pebbles! Srebrna is surrounded by stone slabs that are ideal for sunbathing, sitting, and walking.

The third special feature of Srebrna is the sea!

The sea here is beautiful, clear, deep, and has a specific color that you can only truly experience by swimming and diving; it will remain in your memory long after you leave the beautiful island of Vis!
