Prosik Canyon
Note: The trail length and elevation gain data refer to both directions combined. Although it is our practice to provide data for only one direction for non-circular trails, canyons are an exception, as most of the elevation gain consists of the ascent on the way back.

We know the Omiš hinterland and the entire area towards Slimen and Zadvarje very well. We have often visited the area around Dubci and Gornja Brela, but Prosik Canyon somehow remained hidden from us all that time. It stayed that way until a few years ago when we accidentally found out about it. The mere fact that such a place exists within reach of many excursionists from the wider central Dalmatia area, yet relatively few know about it, is very interesting.

The canyon can be reached from several directions, and this time we started from its southeastern side. We left the car at the intersection where the road from Dubci turns towards Slimen, and protected by a guardrail, we walked along the main road in the direction of Zadvarje and Šestanovac. After 90 m, the trail branched off from the main road, turning into the forest and continuing down into the canyon.

After a short walk, we emerged from the forest and descended via stone serpentines to the bottom of the canyon. There we passed an old well surrounded by snow that had fallen a few days prior.

After a short break, we moved on. Most of the canyon is forested. The trail continues uphill on the other side of the canyon. This is one of the most attractive sections as it passes through the old abandoned hamlet of Škrabići.

It was quite cold, so we could hardly wait to rest on this sun-drenched side of the canyon.

After Škrabići, the trail becomes even more interesting. It leads beneath the cliffs that tower dominantly above us.

After a few hundred meters, we reached an intersection by the stream. The landscape here is very dramatic! One path branches off to the left and returns through the forest to the road towards Slimen. This is an excellent solution for those who do not want to return by the same path. The trail leading straight ahead and to the right enters an impressive stone gorge. We didn’t expect something like this! We spent a lot of time standing and admiring the stone amphitheater surrounding us. Incredible that we discovered this completely by accident!

After about 200 meters, the stone walls give way and open up a view of a significantly different landscape—meadows surrounded by hills, with Biokovo dominating the east. The sight is truly extraordinary!

On the other side of the “field”, the road leads further uphill to Potpoletnica, a settlement on the approach to Zadvarje. Of the twenty or so houses we found here, most are rented out for tourism purposes.

Although at first glance it looks like a remote area, the location is actually very interesting! It offers a peaceful environment in nature, with various attractions in the vicinity, yet it is very close to the Makarska Riviera and the most beautiful sea you can find.

Prosik Canyon really surprised us in every way and once again showed us how many hidden things exist in our local and wider region. That’s why we look forward to every new adventure!

Specijal
