Church of St. Elias (Sutilija Hill)

Driving from Trogir towards Boraja, once you have climbed the winding road to the top, you cannot help but notice the small church atop the hill on the right. We had wanted to visit it for a long time, but as usual, the timing was never right. This time, we made it our specific destination.

St. Elijah’s Church is located near Seget Gornji at the summit of the hill of the same name, Sutilija (Saint Elijah).

The church was built on the site of a much older Illyrian hillfort, and it is surrounded by a medieval cemetery. It has been restored frequently, as it has suffered lightning strikes on several occasions.
Along the approach to the church, within a tree-lined path, stations of the Cross have been established.

The peak of Sutilija Hill holds a dominant position offering a beautiful view of Split, Kaštela, Trogir, and the island of Čiovo.

Although you can reach the very top by car via a macadam road, our recommendation is to leave the car at the intersection where the left path goes to the quarry and the right one climbs toward the church.
The climb is short, only about 300 meters.

Special
Although our focus is on Croatia, due to great interest in reviewing some international locations from our travels, we decided to launch the Special section. In it, we will not cover locations in the same detailed way we do with Croatian ones, but will instead provide a brief overview of multiple locations grouped into meaningful categories. The only criterion we still strictly follow is that they must be natural attractions.
